First things first let me give you a little information on Tohatsu as a company since many of you may not know a whole lot about them. The Tohatsu outboard is made by one of Japan's oldest outboard manufacturers who have been producing high quality, durable motors since 1956. These outboards were originally built for commercial Japanese fishermen who needed a motor that could run for days on end, no matter what the weather. They are ocean-tested and able to work under demanding and harshest of conditions. Tohatsu outboards are not packaged on boats nor do they spend a ton of money on advertising, which is a big reason why a lot of people here in the states do not know about them even though they are one of the top manufacturers in global sales. By not spending a ton of money on advertising, they are able to keep their price point down and offer a great standard 5 year warranty. Believe me when I say over the next couple of years you will be seeing a lot more of these motors out on the water.

The MFS40's and the MFS50's are two of our most popular Tohatsu motors to repower with for a number of reasons. One of the biggest would have to be the price point. Its just too good of a deal to pass up, especially if your on a budget or if you have an older boat and your not looking to buy the most expensive name brand motor you can find. Along with their great price point, Tohatsu packages pretty much all of the rigging components you will need at that price. So along with they motor your also getting the control box, main harness, cables, propeller, and tachometer at that price. Thats huge when you think about it. If you went with any other brand you would have to buy all of those items separate which adds a couple hundred more onto the bill. Lastly, every Tohatsu outboard comes with a standard 5 year factory warranty compared to every one else's standard 3 year warranty. The fact that they offer this warranty all year round really seems to interest customers.

What type of boat are these motors best for you may ask. Well over the years we have installed a ton of these 40 and 50hp outboards on a number of different style boats. We have put them on old classic wooden boats, aluminum deep V fishing boats, and pontoon boats to name a few. They are perfect for just about boat because they have all the reliability and power that the other big name manufactures have, just at a more affordable price. With all of the rig jobs we have done, we have not seen any of these motors come back with any major issues and thats exactly why we like them. Simply put, they are a solid motor.
